Kate Upton was taking pics for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue when she suffered a not-so-minor fall in the waters of Aruba. Photographer Yu Tsai was going for Little Mermaid but got drenched model instead. Shot in Aruba last October, the model was standing all grand and boss-like atop a rock in the middle of some shallow water for the scantily-clad, annual shoot.
Now, as the hotly-anticipated shoot made it onto glossy magazine paper and into your hot little hands, Kate has revealed the literal pain she suffered all in order to get. the. shot. In a video released by SI, Kate is seen perched atop a rock in a dramatic gold, tulle skirt and nothing else as she gazed back at the camera.
“I saw the next wave coming and it didn’t look that large from my point of view. But it must have hit the rock just right,” Upton said in a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot. “And the skirt, whenever it’s wet, with all the tulle is very heavy and it dragged me down.”
