Akihabara is a district located in Tokyo, Japan where you will find the Otaku culture’s hive. The city’s nicknamed, “Electric City,” a name inspired by post WWII events where the markets were major shopping centers for household electronic goods and the post-war black market.
The Otaku subculture is the term used to reference the people who are incredibly obsessed with mangas and anime. Akihabara is their hub and it is everywhere. But Akihabara is also the new hub for something a little more… virtual.
